Keeping pace with the unique safety needs presented by the U.S. Space Force is one of six goals established in the new Safety Strategic Plan developed by the Air Force Safety Center. The plan was released in April 2024 through the center’s headquarters at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It covers the period 2024-2027.
Goal No. 3, according to a new release from the center: “Evolve Support to the Space Enterprise.” This includes developing a plan of action and milestones, determining authorities for overseeing space safety within the Air Force and the Defense Department, and conducting a baseline manpower study. The other strategic goals are to strengthen nuclear safety, integrate risk management into training and operations and into future operating concepts, optimize data and analysis, and modernize the safety workforce.
The plan comes with a new mission statement: “Increase combat power through Risk Management, Training, and Analysis.” It will be used to identify resource requirements, prioritize activities, align manpower and help safety professionals make decisions.
The Safety Center, with its roots in the creation of the Air Force, works to safeguard Airmen and Guardians, and protect resources while enabling mission success. Its duties include developing mishap prevention programs and policies.
